On Tuesday, September 15, 1987, severe thunderstorms moved through portions of the western Ozarks region, producing wind damage and hail from northeast Oklahoma into southwest Missouri.
In southwest Missouri around mid-afternoon, the city of Springfield and surrounding Greene County saw trees and power lines come down, especially across the southeast side of the city. The residents there also reported hail about the size of pennies (0.75 inch). Similar size hail fell from the Ozark community to south of Nixa. Farther south along Bull Shoals Lake, hail to the size of quarters (1.00 inch) fell in parts of Taney and Ozark counties.
Later that evening, additional scattered storms formed in central Oklahoma and moved into the northeast corner of the state, where high winds caused damage across Creek, Tulsa, Craig, and Rogers Counties. In Ottawa County, in Miami, at least 15 homes suffered minor wind damage.
