On Friday, October 8, 1993, a tornado touchdown occurred just before 5:00 PM CST east of the Joplin Regional Airport in Missouri. The tornado moved into the northwest side of the Webb City, Missouri community damaging at least 20 homes. One of the homes was turned sixty degrees after being lifted off of its foundation. Sadly, a family dog was killed as a result. There were numerous trees and power poles knocked down, plus cars and boats damaged. Many residents were out of town that day at a football game in Lebanon, Missouri when the tornado struck. The tornado eventually lifted near the community of Carterville, Missouri. The Springfield NWS office estimated the tornado was 220 feet wide at its maximum width and traveled six miles. It would eventually be rated an EF-2.
